The palace of Zerbst/Anhalt was an important architectural symbol of the principality of Anhalt and was once ranked as one of the most important baroque buildings in central Germany. When one surveys the ruin of the surviving east-wing of the castle structure, one can scarcely imagine what an architectural jewel it once was. Many famous and noteworthy architects and artisans were involved in the building and decoration of the castle. They created a masterpiece in Zerbst in the same style as the castles in Berlin and Potsdam. The remaining structure and substance of the castle will be preserved through safety and renovation measures and a new use found for it.
